This weekend - or i have no time part b!

"............cocooned within the song of the sea."

Time on a beach is always a great stress buster I have found. Just watching the relentless rhythm of the waves that has shaped our coastline, ever refining and recreating in an constantly changing evolution. This beautiful beach not a long stroll along the coastal footpath from Pendeen, has achieved the spare sculptural formations that delight the eye cocooned within the song of the sea.

We spent some time there one day, just idly absorbing the sights and sounds, not far from the bustle of Land's End but a million miles away in terms of peace and tranquility. The fine silky sand under foot, ground over time by the mighty Atlantic, smoothing the boulder formation to greater and greater perfection. On the day that we were there, one dedicated local was collecting the few pieces of plastic that had dared to sully the beach, walking slowly with a Labrador at his heels before carrying them away back up the cliff and disappearing back towards Pendeen. And eventually and reluctantly we too followed taking our memories (and our rubbish) back to the car to drive home.

Pendeen light house just beyond the car park at the beginning of the walk.

Fishing boats drawn up on the beach at Cadwith Cove

And then again, a visit to Cadwith Cove is a delight, with the tumble of thatched cottages leading to the sea. Cadgwith, where Charles swears the best crabs are caught, after fattening in the warm clean waters of the cove and are served as fresh sandwiches directly from a fishing cottage. We missed out on our visit though, as we succumbed to a little liquid refreshment in the flagstoned pub and when we went back passed the fishing boats and neatly piled crab pots, there was a sign saying "No more crab until we go fishing" hmm..........

"No more crab....................."

This week has been a mega decorating effort for us though so no time for Cadwith on the Lizard peninsular or Pendeen in far West Penwith. We've painted relentlessly in readiness for our first busy weekend and I've taken my yearly long hard look at the bedrooms. The Cath Kidson type florals have gone from the Pink room to be replaced with neat roman blinds in a bold modern print emphasising the the massive stone quoins around the windows. By dint of touring most of the furnishing shops in Penzance with my trusted tape measure and not a few on the Internet too (www.frenchbedroomcompany.co.uk is worth a look) I finally found the perfectly sized chest of drawers to fit exactly within the pillars from the Pine factory in Penzance, so now i just have to wait for four weeks, whilst they make them. I've already added a stunning art deco type lamp from Laura Ashley though, with a gorgeous drum shade in berry, hopefully leaving just enough room for the new flat screen TV. For the bedside lamps the best drum shades (my new fav. for the year!) I could find were from B&Q, scattered with a raised flower design in faux silk.
But when we tried the room something was not quite right but fortunately Andrewartha delivered a new sprung bed base for our four poster bed, very promptly at exactly the time that they said they would. Now all I have to do is complete the hand waxing of the wardrobe that I've just refinished in Gustavian Grey and...........................photos to follow!

  1. You've been busy, the room decor sounds superb. Can't fault Andrewartha, when we moved here they delivered two new beds & put them together all exactly as promised. You're making me feel guilty as I've been taking a rest from all the decorating - must get back to it !
